Here's a Glimpse of the Job
Are you an experienced academic librarian with a background in
supporting health sciences education? Texas A&M University's
Medical Sciences Library (MSL) is looking for an Associate
Librarian to come on board as their Campus Partner Librarian in
Dallas, TX.
MSL is excited to welcome a new Librarian that will be able to
connect with the Dallas campus community and become an integral
part of campus culture. As Dallas' Campus Partner Librarian, you
will play a key role in developing and implementing engaging
library programs. Additionally, you will provide expert guidance to
students, faculty, researchers, and staff on topics like searching
skills, finding quality evidence, critical appraisal of resources,
and citation management. As an active member of the Research &
Education Services department, you will participate in both
departmental and interdepartmental meetings and coordinate the
promotion of and access to our valuable resources and
collections.
Opportunities to Contribute
Coordinates reference and consultation programs and services for
students, faculty, researchers, and staff virtually and at the
Dallas, Texas campus and clinical sites.
Coordinates the development and implementation in areas including
searching skills, finding quality evidence, critical appraisal of
resources, and citation management.
Works with colleagues to offer virtual and hybrid instructional
sessions at remote locations.
Provides expert search support for research proposals, grants,
clinical decisions, education, and scholarly work.
Implements new research and teaching trends in health sciences,
academic librarianship, and competency-based education into
instructional practices.
Participates in departmental and interdepartmental meetings as a
member of the Research and Education Department.
Collaborates with University Library colleagues, Texas A&M
Health, the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences to
strengthen library partnerships and support education, research,
and clinical missions.
Partners with Collections & Access Services and other stakeholders
to promote and support academic programs and research through
library resources.
Anticipates and assesses users' evolving information needs to guide
acquisitions, development, discoverability, and access.
Integrates new technologies into library services.
Stays updated on resource changes and participates in training to
develop expertise in new and existing resources.
May seek external funding and write grant proposals for enhancing
Library programs, facilities, and collections.
Engages in professional organizations and scholarly activities to
bring new ideas and technologies into library services and
programs.
Qualifications
Master's degree in library science.
Five years of related experience which should include some
experience as a Librarian in a medical or health sciences
library.
Knowledge of academic library functions.
A well-qualified candidate will also possess:
Master's degree from an American Library Association (ALA)
accredited program.
Five years of experience as a Librarian in an academic, medical,
health sciences, or specialized library.
Experience working with graduate and/or professional students in
Dentistry and/or Dental Hygienist programs.
Membership in the Medical Library Association's Academy of Health
Information Professionals (AHIP).
Evidence of professional development or continued education in
expert searching, instructional design, health information
management, medical informatics, health research, health
information, or health education.
A history of teaching evidence-based principles to professional
and/or graduate students, and/or faculty.
Ability to work across electronic platforms, learn new
technologies, and integrate technology into workflows.
Ability to initiate and evaluate library services and programs.
Knowledge of current trends in health science librarianship.
Ability to work in an environment with shifting priorities, take
initiative, and exercise independent judgement.
Confidence in public speaking and representing the Libraries.
Salary: $72,335.00 with an additional $3,000.00 annual stipend for
professional development
